Building off a comment I made yesterday about Quadracycles, there this new French offering that has me got and bothered. kilow.com Apparently, it’ll do ~48mph and about 42mi of range, which is entirely sufficient for me. That’s more than enough to get to Costco or the lumber store or whatever and back. Like, for around town-ish but bigger cargo than a bike, it’s be perfect. But there’s a problem.

@benbrown It’d solidly work for like 95% of my family’s car usage. And, like, $11k usd? Come on. I’d have one in a second if it was allowed.

@nothingfuture@mastodon.social but are they street legal? I really wanted a tiny car and was trying to get a dune buggy but they are basically illegal to drive here.

@benbrown That’s my point: they are totally not legal here. A solution to the majority of my “car needs” isn’t allowed here, because we have no mechanism for them- a surface road only, low cost, small vehicle. Plus, you have to be worried about some distracted driver in a 10,000lb SUV driving over you. It’s stupid and it makes me mad.

@nothingfuture@mastodon.social yes, yes, all of this. I landed on buying a very small EV and it is a bit terrifying that the top of my car is lower most truck hoods.

@benbrown Yeah. I get that. The size of SUV’s and trucks in the last few years has really, really gotten out of hand. Other countries limit vehicle sizes; we need to as well.
